Distributors Pack made from 30-year-old leather from sports equipment. I had this sheet of leather sent over from the Zirkeltraining workshop in Germany. After deciding on the shape and folding of the leather to provide a pouch and pocket for the print work, i took it to a professional Saddler in Chobham who sewed it together. This provides a potential distributor with a real sample of the materials used to make the bags. The pack contains;

  • A5 product books
  • A3 Shop copy product books
  • Mounted portrait photographs and
  • Postcards

Embossing the Leather

I decided the final touch for the leather would be to have their logo embossed. Inbetween meeting with the professional Saddler to discuss the sewing, i took the material to Wybern Bindery on Clerkenwell Road who agreed to emboss it for me. The matel plate arrived next day, so managed to have the material embossed within a couple of days and just in time to take it to the Saddler to make it into the pouch.

Sustainable printing

These A5 product books are a practical solution to sending Zirkeltraining product information to potential distributors within Britain. Printed by Calverts in Bethnal Green, the book is printed on 100% recycled Revive Uncoated paper and 75% recycled Evolution Silk for the dustcover. However, i decided the book looked better without the dustcover so have removed it. All the paper used is from sustainable forests, is FSC certified and printed using vegetable based inks. I wrote the profiles about the individual athletes using information i have been collecting through interviews with various participants, watching the sports and one to one dialogue with the athletes.

The A3 product books have the same content but are laid out in a larger format to enhance the impact of the images. These would potentially suit as shop copies for customers to brows through. These were printed by BlackDog ltd usig a 350gsm Splender Gell for the cover and a 190gsm Splender Gell for the inner pages, printed on a Xeilcon 5000 printer.

Photoshoot – Zirkeltraining meet British Dames of Rollerderby. A sport reborn

11 05 2009

This is the final shoot of the collection featuring the growing sport Rollerderby. This was shot at a local practice in North West London. Still deciding on the final shot. It was difficult to get the girls to sit still long enough and getting a group shot was proving impossible as they were too focussed on their game to sit still for long.

It was a pleasant surprise as we were packing up, when a girl ran upto us wanting to be photographed. She was very outgoing despite not having as many piercing and tattoes as the others. She did a few powerslides on the floor whilst holding one of the bags which gave a great impression of movement in the photograph. Though they dont fit with the same placid portrait styles as the previous shots i chose, its perhaps more representative of the energy and aggression encouraged in the sport.

Photoshoot – How do you commute to work?

11 05 2009

This shoot features Paul Royle a businessman in the city who commutes to work everyday on his..Unicycle. Paul owned four or five other unicycles for which he uses for a unicycle hockey team, muni (mountain unicycling) and other off road variations.

I chose the laptop case to feature in his photograph.

Photoshoot – British Champion of Unicycle Trials

11 05 2009

These are the shots from a photoshoot with Joe Hodges, British Champion in Unicycle Trials. This is a growing extreme sport, similar in nature to BMX and Skateboarding. Joe was showing us his moves on London south bank where he was leaping over 4ft obstacles, up and down stairs and balancing on rails. Joe is 20 and is aspiring to put together his own extreme sports company centered around the Unicycle community.

For this reason, the product i chose for Joe was the the “Kasten” Laptop/messenger bag.

Final Athlete shots with logo

These are the final shots ive chosen so far. I still have two more sports to shoot tomorrow; Off road unicycling, unicycle commuters and RollerDerby.
